Richmond Public Library is proud to launch a brand-new website today offering a clean, modern, and user-friendly experience for our customers.

“Accessibility and the opportunity to connect, online and in our libraries, is a priority for RPL,” said Susan Walters, Chief Librarian at Richmond Public Library. “Our new site presents customers with easy access to our online catalogue, digital resources, and in-person and online events. This upgrade helps us meet our community’s needs without changing any of the services or programming they know and love.”

The current site was built over a decade ago; this redesign ensures RPL meets or exceeds modern accessibility standards, works properly on mobile devices, and provides the intuitive experience the community requires. Improved navigation means customers find the information they want, faster.

Accessibility was a core priority in the design and development of the new website. The site meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards, and where possible, incorporates elements that align with AAA guidelines while still ensuring a user-friendly experience.

The website also includes tools to support diverse needs, including the ReachDeck screen reader which helps users with visual, reading, or language barriers to navigate content more easily.

The website included significant research and extensive consultation with customers, driven by feedback and data.

In-person library services and programs will be easier to find and use online with the new website. Users are invited to submit feedback through the website or speak with staff at any branch.
